Symposium on US-China Renewable Energy Cooperation with US Department of Energy Secretary Dr. Steven Chu
As part of his mission to build closer ties between the United States and China, the U.S. Secretary of Energy, Dr. Steven Chu met with renewable energy leaders at Peking University last week. The priorities on his agenda included the development of new technologies related to energy and climate changes.
Dr. Chu stressed the importance of new technology developments to improve energy production. "The changes we need to create a new industrial revolution without carbon means we will need new technologies we don't have today. It is not just a great opportunity, but something we must do." Referring to the English idiom that "necessity is the mother of invention," Dr. Chu called climate change "the mother of all necessities."
Optony CEO Dr. PR Yu was invited to discuss challenges and opportunities for large-scale deployment of solar energy projects in both the US and China and ways to further develop the technologies to achieve market and environmental goals. Dr. Yu commented: "We have a historic opportunity in these two countries to achieve aggressive sustainable energy goals through the intelligent adoption of global best practices, innovative technology and cutting-edge solutions for solar deployment."
